With Only the Future Ahead...

An Exchange with Lundagård

In the heights of AF-borgen, overlooking Lundagård, some 3.5 flights of stairs above the ground, Sweden's oldest university newspaper keeps quarters. They, adeptly named Lundagård, report on student life at Lund University. With over a century of experience, I had a lot to learn sitting down in their office. I was there to speak about Katte Gazette and listen to their work and organisation in the hopes of gaining insights to strengthen us back at Katte.

The Editor-in-Chief of Lundagård emphasised the importance of following facts and ensuring that trust between the newspaper and students remained strong. He also underscored that their job was to represent the truth, even if it was uncomfortable or seemingly tarnished the image of Lund. The truth was non-negotiable. As a larger and older newspaper, we have a lot to learn. Lundagård is about 90 years older than our oldest confirmed roots. But maybe, just maybe, in 90 years, some other school, with some other students, will ask us for the help we just received.

Meeting the Greens

We reached Town Hall again. This time, I presented our work to Axel Hallberg and Shahad Lund of the local Green Party. We discussed democratic resilience and the need for critical thinkers, but also how student voices can strengthen education and society. By including more people, even those who disagree with us, I argued that better solutions could be made. They agreed. We will meet again next year to update them on our work and its relevance.

The Next Magazine

Our next magazine has been sent to the publishing house. Now, we are only waiting for the copies to arrive. A lot of hard work has gone into this magazine, and I could not be happier with the nuance and thought every contributor has brought to the table. Whether new features, like a page count (which we embarrassingly forgot in the first edition), or new stories, like Russian incursions into European airspace and book reviews, we have collectively brought everything to the table.

By uplifting young voices and engaging people in communication and writing, we have seen truly exciting work. I sincerely hope that when you hold the next magazine, you will see the same inspiring contributions I do. Every article may not be optimistic in spirit, but the future certainly is if we can expect this commitment and ingenuity from the next generation. This is merely the beginning; let's hope there are many more magazines to come.

Regards,

Edward

Our Magazine Katte Gazette is pleased to announce the official release of our second edition magazine. It is exciting news that emphasises young people taking responsibility for the truth. With a Russian fighter jet on the cover page, it reminds us of a European continent facing escalating tensions and heightened divisions. All of us are scared about what it will mean. But we cannot look the other way; we must talk about it precisely because it is hard and encapsulates our greatest fears. If...

An Article of Hope Working on an article this Monday, I visited Malmö Nation. A group of 12 university students, collaborating with the Red Cross Youth, recently initiated a project to help High School students study. The half-an-hour stop was heart-warming. Every volunteer I spoke to emphasised a want to give back; it being their way of saying thank you to all those that had in some way helped them. It is an important local story. Too often we forget that while we cannot individually change...
