Big Enough to Make a Difference

An Article of Hope

Working on an article this Monday, I visited Malmö Nation. A group of 12 university students, collaborating with the Red Cross Youth, recently initiated a project to help High School students study. The half-an-hour stop was heart-warming. Every volunteer I spoke to emphasised a want to give back; it being their way of saying thank you to all those that had in some way helped them.

It is an important local story. Too often we forget that while we cannot individually change the world, we can change a world. And that is what these university students were doing; changing one world at a time by supporting others. Simply, they were being big enough to make a difference.

An Exciting Project

We may be a school newspaper, but that hardly means we cannot reach experts for comment. An article being written about chat control legislation in the European Union by our Politics Editor Sophie includes an exclusive quote from a professor at Aarhus University. By asking, she got an answer. I am not a chat control debating enthusiast, but this article is one I am excited to read.

A Big Itinerary

We are being noticed. By contacting and being contacted, I have an exciting itinerary to share, showcasing that the work done at Katte Gazette is larger than solely writing articles. Our work is about telling the stories that matter and adding perspective to people’s perceptions of the world.

October:

  • I am meeting with the Mayor of Simrishamn and Regional Councillor Jeanette Ovesson to discuss education and preparing young people for the future’s economy.
  • A local conference about the Swedish reading crisis will include a presentation by me about engaging people in language and literature.
  • I am meeting with the Mayor of Lund Anders Almgren to discuss critical analysis and engaging young people in politics and our world.

Regards,

Edward

Sudan, Stick Insects, and What I am Fighting For In my first newsletter since stepping down as Editor-in-Chief, I want to emphasise the intrigue, quality, and purpose of Katte Gazette's work as a reader. This is the first week in a long time that I have had the time to truly appreciate all the articles they have written. Whether the fall of a dictatorship in Sudan, stick insects disproving a natural law, or a stellar illustration of a sunrise, we are creating stories with purpose. That...

Our Magazine Katte Gazette is pleased to announce the official release of our second edition magazine. It is exciting news that emphasises young people taking responsibility for the truth. With a Russian fighter jet on the cover page, it reminds us of a European continent facing escalating tensions and heightened divisions. All of us are scared about what it will mean. But we cannot look the other way; we must talk about it precisely because it is hard and encapsulates our greatest fears. If...

An Exchange with Lundagård In the heights of AF-borgen, overlooking Lundagård, some 3.5 flights of stairs above the ground, Sweden's oldest university newspaper keeps quarters. They, adeptly named Lundagård, report on student life at Lund University. With over a century of experience, I had a lot to learn sitting down in their office. I was there to speak about Katte Gazette and listen to their work and organisation in the hopes of gaining insights to strengthen us back at Katte. Photo of the...
